Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, and vanilla; combine wet and dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
- Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until elastic. Let rise in an oiled bowl covered with cloth until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thick and cut into doughnut shapes. Allow to rise again for 30 minutes.
- Prepare custard by heating cream with vanilla; whisk egg yolks and sugar together, then gradually add hot cream to temper the yolks.
- Fry doughnuts in hot oil until golden brown (about 1 minute per side). Cool slightly before filling with custard.
