- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 medium yellow onion (chopped)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
- 2 cups whole milk mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil (to taste)
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic; sauté until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as needed. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Spread some meat sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Layer with lasagna noodles, ricotta cheese mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.
- Cover the dish with foil (shiny side down) and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.
