  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 package (14 oz) empanada dough (or homemade)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté diced onions until translucent. Add minced garlic and ground beef; cook until browned.
  2. Stir in cumin, salt, and pepper; mix well.
  3. Remove from heat; fold in cheddar cheese until slightly melted.
  4. Roll out dough to 1/8 inch thick; cut into circles. Place a tablespoon of filling on one half of each circle.
  5. Fold over and seal edges with fingers or a fork; brush tops with egg wash.
  6. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake empanadas on a lined baking sheet for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
