  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 4 Italian bread rolls
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until just combined.
  3. Heat marinara sauce in a skillet over medium heat. Form the meat mixture into meatballs and place gently into the sauce. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes until cooked through.
  4. Slice Italian rolls lengthwise without cutting through. Place rolls on a baking sheet.
  5. Once meatballs are done, fill each roll with meatballs and top generously with mozzarella cheese.
  6. Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with chopped basil and grated Parmesan before serving.
