  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in both sugars until well combined.
  3. Once cooled slightly, whisk in the eggs one at a time and add vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, cinnamon, chili powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. If desired, fold in chopped nuts for added texture.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  8. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
