Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Topping
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups hot water

Method
 

Prepare the Base
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
Prepare the Topping
  1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cocoa powder.
  2. Sprinkle the brown sugar and cocoa mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish.
  3. Carefully pour hot water over the entire mixture in the baking dish. Do not stir.
Bake the Cobbler
  1. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is set and the edges are bubbling.
  2. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serve
  1. Spoon the warm cobbler into bowls and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
