Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1.5 cups plant-based milk (almond or soy)
For the Add-ins
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seeds

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center and add the maple syrup and plant-based milk.
  4. Mix until a soft dough forms. If desired, fold in the raisins and caraway seeds.
Shape and Bake
  1. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
  2. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Score a deep cross on the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  5. Let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
